Mother Earth News reveals annual list of ‘Great Places You’ve (Maybe) Never Heard Of’

TOPEKA, Kan. (Sept. 19, 2012) – What makes a city or town great? If you ask 100 people, you’re bound to get 100 different answers.

With this challenge in mind, Mother Earth News names its annual “Great Places You’ve (Maybe) Never Heard Of.” Mother Earth News, the leading magazine dedicated to sustainable living, features eight communities in its October-November issue, on sale Sept. 25.

The Great Places list serves as a fun way to recognize cities and towns that demonstrate positive civic energy, invest in the local economy and develop meaningful environmental initiatives. Nominations come fromMother Earth News readers, social media communities and staff.

Mother Earth News selected these cities as its 2012 “Great Places You’ve (Maybe) Never Heard Of”:

• Golden, Colo.
• Hilo, Hawaii
• Lawrence, Kan.
• Port Townsend, Wash.
• Red Lodge, Mont.
