Safari weddings are big news right now. Jennifer Aniston and her fiancé Justin Theroux are apparently set to tie the knot on a nine-day safari in Kenya at the end of the year.
It's a great idea. The logistics of a big wedding in the bush present an interesting challenge. But we love a challenge.
For the Hollywood A-lister, the African bush offers a possibly unique experience. It may be the one place on earth where no one knows or cares who you are. Africa is not impressed by fame. I doubt anyone's heard of Jennifer Aniston in the middle of Botswana. For many people, their wedding day is a chance to be the center of attention. But for someone who is the center of attention all the time, a safari wedding offers the ultimate luxury — the chance to be who you really are.
And of course, there's showbiz precedent for a safari wedding. Back in 1975, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton got married in Botswana; it was the second time that they married each other. In fact, they’d only been divorced for 16 months. It was a good example of what Samuel Johnson called "the triumph of hope over experience."
