Peter Sommer Travels Announces New 2013 Itineraries:

Legendary Crete, and 7-Day Tours Ideal for US Travelers

Monmouth, Wales, December 6, 2012 – For 2013, Peter Sommer Travels announces a brand-new land tour of the legendary island of Crete, a 10-day version of the popular In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great itinerary, led by Archaeologist and film-maker Peter Sommer himself; a new 11-day Alexander the Great: Birth of a Legend tour and an array of week-long itineraries ideal for the US traveler’s shorter-duration travel patterns.

Exploring Crete: Archaeology, Nature and Food encompasses the largest of the Greek islands, with historical significance is second to none, ranging from Stone Age seafarers and Neolithic farmers to the mysterious and fascinating Bronze Age civilization of the Minoans. The island’s renowned Classical cities and the rich remains of the Roman, Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman cultures, lead us right through to its turbulent 20th century history.

This brand-new land tour is led by expert guide and archaeologist Heinrich Hall, who has spent more than a decade excavating, surveying and travelling around Crete. Staying in small, beautiful hotels – from Venetian palazzo to traditional inn – the itinerary takes in ancient sites, such as famous prehistoric Minoan palaces, Rethymno’s Ottoman mosque and Venetian palace and Mount Ida – the birthplace of Zeus. Admire spring flowers on gentle walks, visit wineries and try your hand at traditional Cretan cooking.

The 12-day tour departs April 16, 2013, and is priced at  £2,735 ($US 4,395) per person double, including all meals and accommodations, road transfers, all crew and guide services, and all entrance fees and tips on excursions. Airfare is not included.

Week-long Walking and Sailing Tours in Turkey & Greece Ideal for US Travelers

Recognizing that American travelers often prefer week-long journeys, Peter Sommer Travels combines two countries on their expert-led Cruising the South-East Aegean – Greek Islas and Turkish Shores ,which and delves into the area’s colourful history. Starting in the typically-Turkish fishing village of Gümüslük, the well-appointed gulet will head to the Greek island of Kos and the tiny, volcanic island of Nisyros. Anchor off an uninhabited island for the night, visit the paleontology museum of Tilos – dedicated to the island’s extinct pygmy elephant – and explore the harbor town of Symi with its colorful neo-classical buildings and traditional tavernas. Back in Turkish waters, you’ll visit the impressive settlement of Knidos (a former Greek city) and ancient Halicarnassus (modern-day Bodrum).

Departing September 21, 2013, the tour price is priced at £2,250 ($US 3,615) per person double, including all meals and accommodations, road transfers, all crew and guide services, and all entrance fees and tips on excursions. Airfare is not included.
