Music on the Brandywine
March 7 and May 9
CHADDS FORD, PA - February 13, 2013 The Brandywine River Museum presents Music on the Brandywine March 7 and May 9. The two programs feature musicians from Astral Artists, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to discover exceptionally talented emerging classically trained artists.
Brandywine Conservancy Executive Director Virginia Logan says, "It is a joy to experience the stellar talent of these exciting new performers in such a beautiful setting and acoustically live space." Astral Artists' founder and president, Vera Wilson, adds, "I strongly believe that all art disciplines are inspired by one another and so it was wonderful to receive an invitation from the Brandywine River Museum to present our superb emerging Astral artists to their members."
On March 7, Grammy-nominated pianist Andrius Zlabys, began his early piano instruction in his native Lithuania and has also studied at the Curtis Institute of Music. He has appeared as a
soloist with the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony and Cleveland Orchestra. Zlabys will play works by Grieg, Franck and Brahms.
On May 9, pianist Michael Djupstrom and violist Ayane Kozasa will present a program ofworks by Enescu, Porter, Schubert and an original composition by Djupstrom entitledWalimai. Composer and pianist Djupstrom has won awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Composers Forum. He has performed throughout the United States, United Kingdom, France, China and Japan. Ayane Kozasa's performances have been broadcast on Philadelphia's WHYY. She currently studies at the Curtis Institute of Music.
Galleries open at 6 p.m. There will be light refreshments and a cash bar. Admission is $25 for adults, $20 for members and students. Tickets may be purchased online, at the museum admission desk or by calling 610-388-2700.
Brandywine River Museum, located on U.S. Route 1 in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, is open daily (except Christmas Day) from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults; $8 for seniors ages 65 and over, $6 for students and children ages 6-12; free for children under six and Brandywine Conservancy members. Museum admission is free on Sunday mornings through November 24 (except May 26 during Annual Antiques Show) from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
