WAIKIKI, HONOLULU, HAWAII – Outrigger Hotels and Resorts helped 25 couples from around the world “hoi hou ke aloha,” or fall in love all over again this Valentine’s Day with a special vow-renewal ceremony on the shores of Waikiki Beach. And for one lucky couple, Valentine’s Day couldn’t have gotten any sweeter, as they were recognized as being the 10,000th couple to renew their wedding vows with Outrigger Reef on the Beach and Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach since the program began ten years ago in 2003. The honored couple, Matthew and Kimberly DeCovich, from Waterford, Michigan, is in the islands to celebrate their fifth anniversary.
“The best thing to happen to me was marrying Kimberly in 2008 here in Hawaii,” said Matthew DeCovich. “And now on our return five years later, even more happiness. We were lucky enough to be named the 10,000th couple to participate in the vow renewal ceremony, and now we get to come back again!”
Today’s lucky couple received a $100 gift card to Kani Ka Pila Grille and a complimentary four-night stay in an ocean view room for their next visit to either Outrigger Reef on the Beach or Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach courtesy of Outrigger Hotels and Resorts.
“When people think of Hawaii, they often think of romance, which is why we’re so happy to be able to offer our guests the opportunity to renew their vows while staying at our beachfront properties,” said Patsy Narimatsu, director of sales and marketing for Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach and Outrigger Reef on the Beach. “Last week, our guests Johann and Christiane Raush traveled all the way from Germany to celebrate their 20th anniversary with our complimentary vow-renewal ceremony, which the couple said brought tears to their eyes, just like their wedding day 20 years ago.”
This morning’s Valentine’s Day event featured a non-denominational Hawaiian ceremony conducted by a Hawaiian officiant which began with a traditional Hawaiian welcome chant. Couples were then treated to a graceful hula and serenaded with Hawaiian song before being blessed with a gentle sprinkling of sea water and an exchange of vows in the Hawaiian language. The ceremony concluded with a performance of the beautiful Hawaiian Wedding Song, accompanied by a hula. As a special memento of the Valentine’s Day celebration, couples also were invited to take a picture with the officiant and hula dancer and receive one complimentary photo. A commemorative certificate was also presented to each couple to remember the day.
