A SPRINGTIME WALK IN HAUT QUERCY - May 15 – 22, 2008

“In May the countryside of the ancient area of Haut Quercy in Southwest France is full of earthly delights, of new-mown scents and nightingale songs in the valleys, filled with the purring of turtledoves and fields so full of wild orchids that you can hardly walk without treading on them. It is a sheer delight to see such dramatic landscapes cut with fields of poppies and meadow clary” says James Tamlyn of The Walking Party.
James and Diana Tamlyn moved to an 18th century farmhouse in SW France from the UK 15 years ago, enthused by the romance and beauty of the region. They conduct week long walking parties of 10 – 15 congenial members through the Haut Quercy. James’ love and knowledge about the flora and fauna, their combined fascination for the food, wine and personal contacts make the week a special experience, and one you would not be able to enjoy as an individual traveler James and Diana are Slow Food members and very supportive of local culinary traditions which they make sure you enjoy during your stay. Hikes during the week range from 3 miles to 11 miles (with mules carrying your gear and a vehicle option for part of the walk if desired) and take you through fields, along the river, to ancient chateaux, to the medieval cliff hanging village of St. Cirq Lapopie, and other nearby villages. Enjoy picnics, and fabulous meals accompanied by wines come from the area: Cahors, Madiran, Fronton and Irouleguy only need to be tasted before you will be asking for more and these are balanced with the dry whites from Pacherenc, Jurançon and Bergerac and the sweet whites of Monbazillac, Saussignac and Jurançon again! All in all, a perfect way to spend a week in May.
All inclusive price of $2900.00 per person, share basis. Begins and ends at Toulouse Airport.
