With Ring of Fire Tour of Four Volcanoes
In Eight Days across Washington State

And the only thing that stands getting burned is some calories.
Volcanoes of Washington Bike Tour is an eight-day / seven-night ride from Seattle, WA, to Portland, OR, by way of some of the 20 major volcanic centers paralleling the Pacific Ocean and comprising the Pacific Northwest’s Cascade Mountains. The most notable of the volcanoes by virtue of being the most recent to exhibit its muscle is Mount St. Helens that claimed over 50 lives when it erupted on May 18, 1980. Mt. Rainier tossed its fury skyward in 1854. Also included are Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams.

The per person double rate of $3,495 includes accommodations, among others, at two National Park lodges, all meals except one lunch and one dinner, the services of seasoned guides, van support and more. Departures in 2013 are July 20 and Aug. 10.

A van transports guests on day one into the Cascade Mountain foothills to begin a ride to Cle Elum and a night at the Iron Horse Inn where guests stay in actual rail cars. Day two is on back roads over Snoqualmie Pass along the Yakima River into open cattle country and Yakima’s apple orchards. The night is spent at Birchfield Manor, a luxurious inn with highly acclaimed cuisine flavored by the season.
Whistlin’ Jack Lodge in the Wenatchee National Forest is the third night’s destination before climbing 30 miles to Chinook Pass through Mt. Rainier National Park followed by a 12-mile downhill through Cayuse Pass along the Ohanapecosh River. Then comes a 24-mile climb on Mt. Rainier’s eastern flank bound for the Paradise Inn Hotel, a National Park lodge at 5,200 feet in the middle of Mt. Rainier National Park. The next morning is a hike along Skyline Trail through wildflower meadows before biking to the mineral springs at Longmire.
Day six the ride south skirts the flanks of both Mt. Adams and Mt. St. Helens, approaching the latter from the northeast and cycling straight into the route that the exploding gases and ash took during the eruption of spring 1980. From here guests van to the Columbia River and a full-service resort, Skamania Lodge. Passing through the fruitful Hood River Valley the tour winds around Mt. Hood to finish the day with a climb to the award-winning Timberline Lodge. On departure day guests ride down Mt. Hood to a gourmet picnic among the red cedars of Meinig Park before heading back to Portland.
