Upcoming March Events Offer Late Winter Fun in Vermont

MONTPELIER, Vt. – The spring maple sap harvest is one of Vermont’s sweetest and most special seasons, and the fascinating process of making maple syrup will attract thousands of visitors to Vermont’s Annual Maple Open House Weekend March 28-30. But there’s more to March than sugar-on-snow. You’ll also find plenty of outstanding events around Vermont that celebrate outdoor recreation and the arts. Here’s a look at what’s happening in March.

Frigid Infliction Winter Adventure Race at Bolton Valley Resort

Think you’ve got what it takes to tackle the nation’s largest winter adventure race? Show them what you’ve got at the 2008 FIWAR at Bolton Valley Resort. Teams of two and three compete in co-ed or single-sex divisions with topical map and compass, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, post-holing and a ropes course. First-timers welcome. Hina-Matsuri: Doll Festival of Japan

The Asian Cultural Center of Vermont invites you to a day of wishes for happiness, success, and healthy growth. The event includes a doll exhibition and activities for all ages. Dolls wear imperial court costumes from the Heian period of Japan (8th-12th centuries). Learn origami doll making, a Japanese song, calligraphy, haiku poetry, and how to wear a kimono. U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships at Stratton Mountain

Chiara String Quartet at Chandler Music Hall

The Chiara String Quartet plays music in concert halls, clubs and bars. They impressed New York Times critic Bernard Holland when they didn’t dumb down a set featuring Mozart, Haydn and Brahms for the Friday night drinking crowd at a Brooklyn nightclub. They stray from classical, too: a recent performance included a string-laden cover of Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy.”
