DCA at the Dock Kicks off Labor Day Weekend World Championship Competition in Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND—Music lovers are invited to a live performance by some of the best all-age  drum corps in the world during a free concert at Annapolis City Dock on Thursday, August 29, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. For the second year in a row, Drum Corps Associates (DCA) and the City of Annapolis are presenting DCA at the Dock, a family-friendly prelude to the 49th Annual DCA World Championships slated to take place at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium Labor Day Weekend, August 30 through September 1.

With the Chesapeake Bay as a backdrop, Annapolis Mayor Joshua Cohen and DCA Vice President Allen Buell will welcome area residents, visitors, drum corps members, and their families to Thursday’s kick-off of a music-filled weekend featuring 30 drum corps vying to seize the world championship title from last year’s winner, the Reading, PA Buccaneers. Other invited dignitaries include Maryland State Senator John Astle, Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman, and Annapolis Alderman Sheila Finlayson.

Among the corps scheduled to perform at the DCA at the Dock event are: Sacramento Freelancers Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps; Ghost Riders Mini Corps from Batavia, New York; Annapolis Drum & Bugle Corps; U.S. Naval Academy Drum & Bugle Corps; and a mass horn line of all early arrival corps members. The City Dock audience will also get a sneak preview of the Heartliner Drum & Bugle Corps of Ludwigshafen from Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. This is the first year in DCA history that a German drum corps is scheduled to compete in the World Championships.

Individuals inspired by the music will have an opportunity to purchase advance tickets for the World Championships from DCA representatives stationed at City Dock. The schedule of performances at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium is as follows:
