There's something so pure and simple about hiking. You put on your boots, throw some food, water, and a jacket into your little pack, and off you go. (Okay, and a camera and binoculars.) It's fundamentally the same whether you're hiking in the American Southwest or mountains of South America—only the scenery and weight of your jacket changes. It's not rocket science, it's just walking, walking, walking; looking, hearing, feeling. Don't you love it?

Walking Through Peru: Trek the Inca stronghold—Lima, Cusco, Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu The highlight of this 12-day journey is a 4-day lodge-to-lodge trek to Machu Picchu, in the company of experienced Peruvian mountain guides. You'll hike a lesser-traveled section of the ancient Inca Trail and see maybe one or two other parties all day.
