Yucatan, Mexico’s Hacienda Yunku Makes Booking Christmas Family Vacations Easy With Airbnb.com

The secluded 17th C. estate villa, whose name means “God’s Place,” is situated on twenty-five acres of gardens and water features. It is just forty-five minutes from Merida, Yucatan’s capital city and accommodates two to twelve people.

Yunku, Mexico  (November 12, 2013) - There are few holiday experiences as rewarding as renting one of Mexico’s famed private haciendas for a family's exclusive enjoyment. To facilitate holiday booking, Hacienda Santo Domingo Yunku in Yucatan’s famed Mayan temple corridor has teamed with airbnb.com, the popular global booking site.

The secluded 17th C. estate villa whose name means “God’s Place” is situated on twenty-five acres of gardens and water features. It is just forty-five minutes from Merida, Yucatan’s capital city and accommodates two to twelve people.

“The new partnership reflects Yunku’s commitment to providing a customized travel experience tailored to the desires and needs of its renters – particularly during the holidays when families want to create memorable travel experiences,” stated Yunku marketing representative Regina Kolbe.

“Yunku visitors love the hacienda for the beauty and privacy a gated estate offers. They love it for the freedom it affords to create a flexible travel experience - whether it is exploring the nearby Mayan city of Uxmal, visiting crafts villages, taking in a symphony or bull fight in Merida, the 500-year old colonial capital of Yucatan, or simply enjoying time with the family.  Excursions and guides can be arranged through the Hacienda, as can private catering and entertainment,” Ms. Kolbe added.

The iconic Casa Principal is restored to its elegant Spanish Colonial style with vaulted arches, tile floors and high ceilings. It houses the living room, two master suites with queen size beds and en suite bathrooms, the main kitchen, a large dining room, the chapel and a ninety-foot veranda that looks out on the pool and a naturally occurring cenote as well as the gardens and old corrals.

Two detached structures, originally workshops that serviced the plantation, have been converted into master suites and dorm-style accommodations. A free-standing “Mayan house” with thatched roof can be used for relaxing or as additional entertaining space.

On-site activities include diving and snorkeling in the cenote, a fresh water pool located in an underground cave.

Amenities include TV, Internet, videos, complimentary bicycles, hammocks and hammock "chairs." The staff speaks English and Spanish. (Mayan too).

Interestingly, the grounds carry remnants of Yunku’s past glory.  An ancient aqueduct is still used to water the gardens and orchards. An old cattle trough now bears water lilies. And pieces of the original narrow-gauge track on which containers of henequen leaves were hauled are intact and picturesque.

Hacienda-based travel in Yucatan is growing in popularity as families and activity-based groups discover the rich and diverse cultures that exist beyond the beaches and nightlife. “In the Yucatan,” frequent Yucatan visitor Laura Vick added, “European traditions blossomed in the shadow of lost Mayan cities and the Mayan culture, the result of royal land-grants from the King of Spain. Hacienda Yunku was one of those.”

Hacienda Yunku was featured in the book, "The New Hacienda" by Karen Witynski & Joe P. Carr, 1999. It opened to the public about a decade ago.  It has hosted archeological, anthropological and yoga groups as well as private guests on extended stays. A stay at Hacienda Yunku includes breakfast. Arrangements for private catering and entertainment can be made through Yunku’s on-site manager or through an airbnb.com conversation with Yunku management.

With airbnb.com travelers can see both accommodations and grounds, communicate with Yunku’s management in their local language (the sites offers instant translation), read travel experience reviews from previous guests, and book using their local currency.  The direct link is http://bit.ly/1agjplG. Hacienda Yunku’s website is www.haciendayunku.com. Hacienda Yunku is open year round.
