GETAWAY PACKAGE EXPLORES COLUMBUS’S MOST GHOSTLY HAUNTS

10-04-2007

Columbus, OH – The historic and one-of-a-kind Lofts Hotel, located in downtown Columbus’ lively Arena District, will host a special Ghostly Haunts Getaway.  Because The Lofts is a featured site on the Columbus Landmarks Association “Haunts on High Road Rally Tour,” the hotel is the ideal place to stay during the tours. The beautifully restored plumbing-supply-warehouse-turned-boutique-hotel is known for its dramatically beautiful design and architectural and historical significance.

Available Fridays, October 19 and 26, and Monday, October 29, the Ghostly Haunts Getaway is offered for just $199 in The Lofts or $169 at the neighboring Crowne Plaza Hotel. The package includes:

·               One night for two in a guest loft in The Lofts Hotel or guestroom at the Crowne Plaza

·               A copy of the DVD documentary “True Ghost Stories from Ohio: The Truth Behind Hauntings & Eyewitness Accounts of Ghostly Tales” (Offered at Borders on Kenny Road and Barnes & Noble, Easton Town Center.)

·               Two tickets to Columbus Landmarks Association “Haunts on High Road Rally Tour”

·               Breakfast for two

·               Valet parking

The “Haunts on High Road Rally Tour,” which stretches between The Lofts Hotel (at the corner of E. Nationwide Blvd. and High St.) and the Greater Columbus Antique Mall, 1045 S. High St.  Once an Indian trail, the High Street route for the two-hour tour begins with the ghostly “Lady of the Lofts,” and ends with the antiques whose former owners won’t give them up, and features everything eerie in between.  Tours begin at 7:00 or 7:30 pm on the night of guests’ arrival.

Reportedly, a woman’s husband was killed in a dreadful warehouse accident in the Lofts building when it was a plumbing supply house in the early 1900s. Spotted by hotel associates in stairwells, hallways and in the basement, The “Lady of the Lofts” ghost is believed to be the widow of that unfortunate fellow.  She’s described as woman in her late 20s, bearing a sad countenance and wearing a long Victorian-style dress.

“Several of our staff members have reported seeing the ‘Lady of the Lofts’,” said The Lofts Hotel General Manager, Kathryn Burton, adding “I’ve even seen her myself on several occasions. She is in no way a frightening spirit, but rather a protective presence that possesses a sense of ownership to the building and those who work in it.” Because of her first-hand encounters with the “Lady of the Lofts,” Burton will lead the portion of the tour that begins at The Lofts Hotel.

The only hotel of its kind, The Lofts Hotel was created in an 1882 historic registry building that was once a plumbing supply warehouse. Located in the heart of downtown Columbus, Ohio’s exciting Arena District and the trendy Short North arts district, the hotel’s 44 dazzling hotel rooms mirror urban loft apartments.  The Lofts Hotel features soaring 15-foot ceilings, exposed brick beams and duct work, floor–to-ceiling windows and New York Subway tile-covered bathrooms.  With no two rooms alike, The Lofts’ unusually large rooms offer luxurious touches, generous work space, Touhy executive chairs, two-line phones and complimentary in-room high-speed internet access.
