Whistler, B.C. -- The hills are alive with the sound of snow falling as Mother Nature rewards Whistler for its patience – by dropping nearly two feet of snow on the resort in the last seven days.

Whistler received more than a foot of snowfall (35 centimetres or 14 inches) in the last 24 hours, rounding out the seven-day total to 50 centimetres (20 inches) and pushing the alpine base to 173 centimetres (68 inches). The forecast is calling for another 38 centimetres (15 inches) of snow to blanket the alpine between today and Saturday.

With all the fresh snow, The Whistler Insider gives you tips on how to ski like a local.

The snowfall comes as Whistler celebrates the 2014 Olympic Winter Games with daily broadcast viewingson the big screen at Whistler Olympic Plaza, additional Fire & Ice shows at Skiers’ Plaza (February 13, 16, 20, 23 and 27), Games edition Family Après at Whistler Olympic Plaza (February 12, 17 and 19) and Luge and Bobsleigh demos and activities. Guests are also invited to a special breakfast on Saturday, February 15 from 9-11 a.m. at Whistler Olympic Plaza, where Whistler’s own Olympian Julia Murray will serve her Jules Fuel cereal (along with pancakes and bacon). Breakfast is by donation to the Whistler Mountain Ski Club. The detailed list of activities and events is available at http://www.whistler.com/olympics-2014/

In addition to the Winter Games fun, Whistler has a non-stop lineup of events throughout February, March and April.
