"2014 THE YEAR OF CZECH MUSIC"

Prague has always been a beloved place of musicians and worlds class composers. From Mozart, Dvorak to Mahler, Prague has been the city of musical inspiration for centuries. 

The year 2014 marks several major anniversaries including Czech composers Dvorak and Smetana as well as the Prague Symphony Orchestra, declaring 2014 as, "The Year of Czech Music". The year will be packed with musical occasions, from gala concerts to festivals, open-air events and music-themed exhibitions. "The Year of Czech Music" project runs under the auspices of famed Czech mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kozena and her conductor husband, Sir Simon Rattle. Apart from foreign events, about 800 events are planned within the project in the Czech Republic. It will be closed by a gala concert of world soloists with Czech orchestras on December 17th.

You can learn about stories ofAntonin Dvorak giving music lessons to his first love in Prague, or the amazing and heartbreaking stories of 20th century Czech-Jewish composers such as Pavel Haas. Top Music Events in the Czech Republic

Classical music aficionados will enjoy Prague Spring International Music Festivalshowcasing the best of world classical music. 

Established in 1949, Smetana's Litomysl Opera Festival is the largest open-air classical music festival in the Czech Republic taking place in the UNESCO town of Litomysl, the hometown of the Czech composer Bedrich Smetana. In the summer season, visit International Music Festival Cesky Krumlov, which is the most popular outdoor festival taking place on the cobblestone streets of the picturesque UNESCO town of Cesky Krumlov in Southern Bohemia.
