Kyoto Winter Special to Lure Foreign Tourists

Kyoto, Japan … October 1, 2007 – Kyoto City announces its most in-depth campaign ever to attract foreign tourists during the winter months.   

The Winter Special promotion will include:

*First-time public openings of normally restricted heritage sites and special viewings of select, precious cultural properties, normally in storage at temples, shrines and museums

*The Arashiyama and Higashiyama Hanatoro or “Flower Lane Festival,” where Kyoto evenings become a celebration of winter, as streets, temples, temples, shrines, and historic and cultural facilities are adorned in the dim light of exotic lanterns, flowers and other decorations.

*Special traditional dance and musical performances, concerts, Yobanashi or candlelight tea ceremonies with Kyoto cuisine and traditional and story-telling

*Attractive discount packages VIP gifts, and special services -- such as room upgrades to foreigners at an array of Kyoto hotels and ryokan (Japanese inns)
