Birders Flock to Gulf Coast for 11th Alabama Coastal BirdFest
Registration continues for the 11th annual Alabama Coastal BirdFest, October 2–4, 2014. Since 2004, BirdFest has brought together thousands of birders from across the United States and Canada to enjoy prime bird watching opportunities on the Gulf Coast during fall migration. "The birding potential on the Alabama Gulf Coast is phenomenal, and during fall migration is the best time to enjoy it,” said John Borom, event founder. “With the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, five rivers come together to form the second-largest river delta in America. At Bon Secour, more than 370 bird species have been counted." This year’s Alabama Coastal BirdFest offers more than 20 expertly guided trips by foot and on boat to popular bird watching locations throughout Mobile and Baldwin counties, two evening speaker events, and a free, family friendly Bird and Conservation Expo that takes place in downtown Fairhope on Saturday, October 4. Fees for trips range from $20 to $50. Registration for the Welcome Reception on Wednesday, Oct. 1 is $20; registration for the Friday night dinner and speaker is $35. Admission to the Expo on Saturday, Oct. 4, is free. Trips and evening events require advance registration. Popular trips sell out early; visit www.AlabamaCoastalBirdFest.com to view the schedule and register. Phone: (251) 625-0814
