Ko Olina Children's Film & Music Festival
KO OLINA, O‘AHU, HAWAI‘I (February 25, 2015) - The second annual Children’s Film & Music Festival (CFMF) at Ko Olina, Saturday, March 7, will be even bigger than the first with hot, young local performers, interactive audio and video studios for aspiring artists, and nine films ranging from family-friendly Disney to Hawai‘i International Film Festival favorites.
The feature film, Frozen, will be screened on the beach at sunset; look out for the next Idina Menzel as the kids invariably belt out “Let It Go.”
The festival’s theme of creativity and imagination is exemplified by the following local artists who are both young in age and/or young at heart:
- Honoka & Azita (Ukulele duo) – Rising teen ukulele stars, the duo “Keiki Wahine” consisting of Honoka Katayama and Azita Ganjali, return to CFMF with their amazing repertoire.
- Performing Arts Center of Kapolei (PACK) – Uses the power of theater to unite and educate local communities. From musical favorites like School of Rock to educational productions like How To Succeed In High School, PACK will perform a selection of Disney tunes.
- James McCarthy & Friends – Popular in the Celtic-folk-rock circles of Honolulu, McCarthy writes original tunes that catch the ear, heart and wit in equal parts. A trained actor and storyteller, he reaches audiences with skilled humor and infectious participation. His band plays to packed houses every weekend for the last seven years.
- POW! WOW! Hawai‘i School of Music – POW WOW! HAWAI‘I SCHOOL OF MUSIC provides unique learning opportunities for local musicians between the ages of 13-18. They participate in classes on composition, vocals, percussion, guitar, ukulele, keyboard, bass, recording, performance and the music business with local and national musicians, teachers and industry professionals. Students also collaborate to create original music they perform at POW! WOW! Hawai‘i’s closing night festivities.
- Crimson Apple – The award winning all-girl, pop-alt band, Crimson Apple, features four sisters and their good family friend. Awards include winning the 2014 Star 101.9 Battle of the Bands, the 2013 Turtle Bay Annual Kanikapila Kontest, and the 2013 Koko Marina Band Challenge. Additionally, the band’s lead singer, Colby, won second place as a songwriter in the Grammy Foundation's And Music Cares Teens! Make Music Contest, where she got to attend the Grammy’s backstage.
- Aulani Hula Show – This show is an enchanting journey into Hawaiian culture and traditions that unfolds through song and dance. Highlights include hula performances, live music with classic and modern Hawaiian songs, torches, paddles, palm fronds, coconut shells, ukuleles, and a high-energy dance party with popular Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Stitch and more.
- Feature Act on the Beach: Streetlight Cadence – This alternative folk pop four member vocal and instrumental group got its start busking on the streets of Waikiki. Streetlight Cadence made the top 25 in the final round of last year's Hard Rock Rising, the global battle of the bands competition with more than 10,000 bands competing in the contest worldwide.
