BRECKENRIDGE FILM FEST CELEBRATES 28 YEARS AND OUTSTANDING PREMIERES

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. – Feb. 26 – A town with a past, a history of outstanding premieres, and 28 years of transforming Main Street into Hollywood Boulevard; the Breckenridge Film Fest returns to its picture-perfect setting Thursday, June 5 through Sunday, June 8, 2008. Features include over 50 independent films, a host of Hollywood premieres – past notables include La Vie en Rose (featuring actress Marion Cotillard, winner of the 2008 Acadamy Award for Best Actress, and winner of the 2008 Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy), Rescue Dawn, Surf’s Up (2008 Academy Award nominee for Best Animated Film), Babel (the 2006 Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee for Best Picture), The Shawshank Redemption, L.A. Confidential, American Beauty, Lost in Translation, Frida, The Joy Luck Club, Like Water for Chocolate – a showcase for young student talent, an arena for gay and lesbian topics, a focus on spiritual films, and the introduction of a Latin films category this year.

“For each of the past 27 years, the Breckenridge Film Fest has made a commitment to highlight award-winning premieres, innovative independent films, forums, intriguing yet sometimes controversial topics, learning opportunities, and fun events in an idyllic setting,” said Dawna Foxx, Breckenridge Film Fest executive director. “The relaxed atmosphere found at this festival offers a rare opportunity for filmmakers, filmgoers and industry guests to meet and interact.”

Each year, the Breck Film Fest is hosted by none other than WNBC-TV Film Critic and “Reel Talk” co-host Jeffrey Lyons, along with his son Ben Lyons, the E! Network Daily Top 10’s film critic. More than 80 Hollywood luminaries have appeared in Breckenridge over the past 27 years, including Donald Sutherland, Jon Voight, Michael York, Connie Nielsen, Eva Marie Saint, Alan Arkin, Lou Diamond Phillips, Jon Favreau and the late Rod Steiger.

“The appearances – and the premieres – are always a surprise as these films are announced at the very last minute,” added Foxx. “The anticipation becomes a huge part of the excitement surrounding the festival. Those who have joined us over the years know they’ll be among the first to see the season’s best films.”

In addition to showings and premiere events, the Breck Film Fest features the University of Colorado (CU) Film Studies program, free forums – including topics such as children in films – and presentations by a host of notable industry experts, as well as a High School Films Program presented by participants from Summit High School and Denver School of the Arts.

The festival also showcases Breckenridge, Colo. This fascinating town, the largest historic district in Colorado, was established in 1859 as a Victorian mining town. The town also offers a wealth of outdoor recreation, shopping and dining activities.

The Breckenridge Film Fest is a 501(c)(3) private, non-profit organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. Funding for the festival comes from local public and private grants, sponsorships, fundraising events, individual contributions, in-kind assistance, and revenue from tickets and merchandise. More than 150 individual volunteers, four local theaters and other venues are involved in this annual event. Breckenridge is located 80 miles west of Denver International Airport via Interstate 70.
