Antarctic sea kayaking part of extreme adventure travel trend

Hi, David—

For Shackleton wannabes, Explorers’ Corner’s new Antarctic Sea Kayaking Expedition offers the ultimate challenge.  The only guided commercial kayaking/camping trip in the Antarctic Peninsula, the month-long adventure includes an exclusive opportunity to paddle around Cape Horn—perfect for a growing breed of adventure travelers who prefer their adventures extreme.

A press release about the new Explorers’ Corner (www.explorerscorner.com) expedition slated for November and December 2008 follows.  Let me know if I can help with additional info or images.

Best,

Tracy

New Antarctic sea kayaking expedition raises bar on adventure travel

Berkeley, California – March 11, 2008– Kayaking amid huge, silent icebergs; camping on a deserted Antarctic beach; even paddling the infamous waters around Cape Horn—for a new breed of adventure traveler, the opportunity to match wits with the wilderness is a call to unleash the inner explorer.  Which explains why Explorers’ Corner’s description of its new month-long Antarctic Sea Kayaking Expedition can sometimes sound more 1914 Shackleton Endurance Expedition than 2008 winter getaway.

A unique expedition that sates the growing desire of some adventure travelers for only the most challenging hands-on experiences of the most off-the-beaten-track destinations, Explorers’ Corner’s new trip combines days paddling the famous waters of the west side of the Palmer Peninsula with nights in tented camps on Antarctic beaches and shipboard on a small expedition sailing boat.  “This is a place where nature tests our judgment and at the same time rewards the intrepid,” says Explorers’ Corner senior guide Olaf Malver, stressing that the expedition is only for experienced cold-water paddlers with a “flexible attitude” who’ve done winter camping as well.

An award-winning specialty adventure travel company offering one-of-a-kind destinations and experiences and “old-world” customer service, Explorers’ Corner recently was honored in msnbc.com’s Best Adventure Trips of 2008 and as a National Geographic Adventure Best Outfitter of 2008.  Its new Sea Kayaking Expedition to the Antarctic Continent is offered November 20 – December 18 and December 3 – 31, 2008.  Rates start from $13,500 per person for groups of six, exclusive of airfare to and from Ushuaia, Argentina.  For details, contact Explorers’ Corner at 510.559.8099 or visit www.explorerscorner.com.
