ADIRONDACK PARK, March 11, 2008 - The beauty and majesty of the Adirondack Mountains is a site to behold throughout Adirondack Park, but imagine being able to tour the more than 6-million-acre wilderness on the wings of a bird. With the release of a new high definition video, it's a reality.
The video - a collaboration among the Adirondack Regional Tourism Council, Franklin County Tourism, Essex County Tourism, WNED Public Broadcasting in Buffalo, I Love New York, The Wild Center Natural History Museum, AdWorkshop and Inphorm Inc. - contains six minutes of high definition footage filmed throughout the Adirondack Park from the nose of a helicopter. Culled from more than 17 hours of original footage, the video is set to music and is featured at the Adirondack Regional Tourism Council's Web site, www.visitadirondacks.com.
The footage was filmed September 3-5 on HDCAM SR tape, which provides the highest high definition resolution picture quality available today, from a gyro-mounted camera aboard the aircraft. The crew shot footage from dawn till dusk during the three-day effort, sometimes flying as low as 40-feet from the ground.
Footage includes all of the 46 Adirondack High Peaks, along with several lakes and attractions that typify the region. Portions of the video show hikers topping rocky Adirondack peaks, vacationers paddling canoes through pristine lakes, a family of campers relaxing by the water and plenty of quaint mountain hamlets. The footage spans all corners of the park, from as far south as Glens Falls, as far west as Old Forge and as far north as Malone.
The Wild Center Natural History Museum in Tupper Lake will also feature portions of the video this summer at the Flammer Panoramas Theater. The video exhibit, titled "A Matter of Degrees," will debut in July. Portions of the footage are also being used by WNED for PBS programming. But to get a preview of the footage now, check out www.visitadirondacks.com. For more information on the video footage, call 518-523-5349.
