Tips & Bits

Airlines Are #1 Complaint
According to a recent survey conducted by the U.S. Tour Operators Association, airline-related issues overwhelmingly outnumber all complaints tour operators receive from travelers. The association reported that over 70% of responding tour operators cited airline problems as the most common complaint, followed by money-related issues, reported by 20% of members.

Among complaints were poor airline service and airline cutbacks, lengthy check-in procedures including security, and flight delays and cancellations often resulting in missed connections. Missing connecting flights because of airline delays and cancellations were the most common airline-related complaint, with lack of service coming in second. The hassle of flying (airport security, long check-ins, full/overbooked flights) caused one responding tour operator to say: "Airline travel is not fun," noting that the vacation now begins once the traveler arrives at the destination, rather than the flight being considered part of the vacation.

Volunteer in April
April is national volunteer month. So how can you contribute while traveling? Here’s one idea: The Marriott and Renaissance Hotels of New Orleans has developed a program that offers several ways to help rebuild the Katrina-damaged city. Called the Big Easy Spirit To Serve program, it’s priced seasonally at $149-$269 per night, based on double occupancy, valid year-round, and includes:

-- Donation to Local Charity - $50 per night of the guests’ room rate will be contributed to New Orleans Habitat for Humanity to help in the revitalization of the Big Easy.

-- Care Concierge – Once reservations are confirmed, the Care Concierge will provide recommendations on local volunteer organizations for guests who want to help in the rebuilding of New Orleans. Recommendations will be sent via email.
