Record Conditions for the West’s Best Snowmobile Trail

Lander, Wyo - Wyoming's Continental Divide Snowmobile Trail (CDST) is the "Best of the Best", according to the readers of SnoWest Magazine, the sport's leading authority on adventure snowmobile riding. The #1 designation is the result of an annual survey ranking Scenery, Trails, Snow and Services by the people who know it best, the riders.  And they know what they’re talking about – record snowfall and perfect conditions this year have impressed even long-time pros, with the consensus being that this is the best year in the last 15 years for snowmobiling along the trail.

Also for the first time in over a decade, the entire length of the trail is open to the public.  With 608 miles of unbelievable views, the trail runs along the Continental Divide from Lander, Wyoming northwest to West Yellowstone, Montana.  Along the journey the trail winds through the Wind River Mountains, over the Continental Divide to Pinedale on the western slopes, then back over the Divide to Dubois and Togwotee Pass. A special highlight is always the period though majestic Grand Teton National Park.

Paul Gritten, Wyoming Trails Revenue Manager, reports that “The continental divide and other regions of the state are doing fantastic this year with the amount of snowfall they have received.  We have received so much snow that some folks along the divide wish for a reprieve.  Trail conditions are in excellent shape as grooming continues frequently each week.  Wyoming State Trails Program asks folks to get out on a trail as there are months of epic snowmobiling left. March and April typically have great snow and warmer temperatures associated with them. “

The CDST is one of the West's largest and longest trail systems.  The variety of riding available makes it appealing to sledders of all ages and abilities. Plus, services and accommodation are available throughout the trail system so you can end each day with a hot meal and comfortable lodging.  Togwotee Pass, around 9000' in elevation at the very top of the CDST, is famous for its late spring snowmobiling.  Wind River County is in the heart of it all - this playground of powder gets an average winter snowfall of up to 290 inches (that's 24 feet!). Around every bend are friendly western towns that give you a taste of the Old West – the cozy cowboy towns Dubois, Lander, Riverton, and the historic gold mining villages South Pass and Atlantic City all offer amenities for a comfortable winter adventure. To arrange your own sledding adventure, it’s easy to sign up with one of the area's many professional and experienced outfitters. With views in every direction and more snow than you've ever imagined, this is winter at its best.<!--[endif]-->
