HURTIGRUTEN ANNOUNCES “PRESIDENT’S CRUISE”
10-23-2007
New York, NY, September 2007 -- The pristine polar landscapes and abundant wildlife of Antarctica, Chile’s fine wines, famous seafood and pisco sours, and the stunning snow-capped mountain scenery surrounding Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost city, are just some of the highlights of Hurtigruten’s first ever “
President’s Cruise.” Company president Hans Rood will accompany passengers on a 13-day exploration cruise aboard the world’s newest and most deluxe expedition ship, the 318-berth
MS Fram, spending five days in Antarctica as well as several days in Chile’s Santiago and Argentina’s Ushuaia. A cruise veteran of more than 20 years, Hans has held senior positions with several lines and assumed the helm of Hurtigruten in the U.S. two years ago. The trip will mark Hans’ inaugural visit to the White Continent and he looks forward to sharing the excitement of the experience with his fellow travelers. The air-inclusive adventure departs February 9, 2008; fares are $6,499 and $7,499 per person, double, and include free upgrades of hotel accommodations and cabin suites.
Guests join Hans and expert naturalist guides on deck and on landings as the
MS Fram sails through Antarctica’s narrow, glacier-lined Lemaire Channel and along the majestic Neumayer Channel, passing spectacular glaciers and icebergs, and incredible wildlife, including gentoo and chinstrap penguins, humpback and killer whales, elephant seals, and a variety of seabirds. Weather permitting, landings are made at Half Moon and Deception Islands, Ukrainian Vernadsky and Polish Arctowski Bases, Almirante Brown, Port Lockroy, Neko Harbor and Petermann Island. An exclusive “Goodbye Cocktail Party,” the ideal setting to mingle and share experiences, is one of several special “President’s Cruise” gatherings.
Hans hosts a tour of Chile’s capital, Santiago, a visit to the Cavas del Maipo winery to see first-hand how some of the country’s finest wines are produced, and lunch at Donde Augusto restaurant, well-known for its Chilean seafood and pisco sours. A tour of Ushuaia, the stunning resort city on Tierra del Fuego, precedes the voyage across the Drake Passage.
The President’s Cruise includes round-trip flights from New York, Santiago-Ushuaia roundtrip flights, five-star hotels with breakfast with free upgrades, free cabin upgrades to suites, sightseeing and activities, port charges and transfers. Add-on airfares are available from dozens of North American gateways.
