Hopper + Homer: TWO LANDMARK AMERICAN EXHIBITIONS Two Weeks Left!

04-30-2008

  • One last chance to see Edward Hopper, featuring 90 paintings, prints, and watercolors from Hopper's entire career, focusing on the period of his greatest achievements.
  • Many of Hopper's most recognizable images such as Automat (1927), Drug Store (1927), and New York Movie (1939) are on view for the first time in Chicago. Hopper's signature work, Nighthawks (right), returns home to the Art Institute after a year-long absence.

  • Watercolors by Winslow Homer: The Color of Light is the most comprehensive exhibition of Homer's watercolors in decades.
  • The exhibition, exclusive to the Art Institute, presents 130 works that reveal Homer's astounding mastery of watercolor, exploring how he unlocked the secrets of the medium over a period of more than three decades.
  • Due to the sensitivity of watercolor to light, there will not be another exhibition of this magnitude featuring Homer's watercolors for many years to come!
