Hearst Castle . . . . . . . . 50 Years of Tours. Hearst Castle, built by newspaper publisher, art collector and movie producer William Randolph Hearst, opened for public tours on June 2, 1958. Operated by California State Parks, this historic estate will celebrate its 50th anniversary of public tours on June 2, 2008. Morro Bay’s New Harborwalk to Debut in May. Harborwalk, a pedestrian and bicycle pathway along Morro Bay’s waterfront from Beach Street to Morro Rock, is expected to open just in time for the busy summer season. The ½-mile boardwalk utilizes recycled material and will feature benches, overlooks for fabulous views of Morro Rock and the bay, and interpretative signs.
