Beach Haven, NJ, May 16, 2008 - Having an excellent beach is no secret to residents of Beach Haven. It's nice to know that the public agrees.
Beach Haven is being named among New Jersey's Top Ten Beaches in a public survey completed this spring by the New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium (NJMSC), working in conjunction with New Jersey Sea Grant, the Richard Stockton College Coastal Research Center and the New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism. Official rankings will be announced by NJMSC on May 22.
NJMSC's survey ranks beach communities in categories of Ecotourism, Family Vacation, Tourism, Events and Top Ten Beach overall. The resorts receive a commemorative sign denoting the honor for display to the public.
This is the first public poll on beaches ever taken by NJSMC. The organization has researched the state's beaches since 1986 to calculate sand volume changes and the topographic profiles of the dunes, beach and seafloor to a depth of 12 feet along the Atlantic Ocean coastline, Delaware Bay and Raritan Bay, utilizing the findings to provide regional information on coastal zone changes and long term trends. This year the scientific data and public survey are being combined to obtain the results, with the public's portion ultimately deciding which beaches are the best.
Long renowned as one of New Jersey's best beach resorts, Beach Haven and the Long Beach Island region are a mecca for seashore excitement. There's fishing of all kinds, a wide variety of eco-tours and programs, fabulous food and nightlife, great music, theatre and abundant cultural arts and history. Plus there's great golf, amusement parks for the kids, hundreds of eclectic shops and boutiques, and an annual events calendar brimming with sensational concerts and children's theatre, sailing regattas, arts, crafts and antique shows, boat shows, sporting events and fabulous festivals.
Beach Haven's residents and visitors have long known that it's hard to find a better beach. Once the official rankings are announced, there's no doubt about it.
