San Francisco may be every dog’s favorite city to visit. According to the San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau, every dog has its day in the City as many hotels in San Francisco offer amenities and packages to make Fido and Fluffy feel right at home.
According to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association (APPMA) 2007-2008 National Pet Owners Survey, 63 percent of U.S. households own a pet, which equates to 71.1 million homes spending $40.8 billion dollars on their four-legged family members. That’s a lot of dog biscuits.
According to a current TripAdvisor survey of more than 1,100 travelers (and more than 700 pet owners), 53 percent of people with pets travel with their pets. Thirty-five percent of pet owners take shorter vacations and 25 percent take fewer vacations because they don’t want to leave their furry pals behind; seven percent will only travel to destinations where they can bring their pets.
New facilities in San Francisco offer everything from swimming pools, massages, and group playtime to keep visiting pooches and felines happy and healthy. These hotels offer San Francisco visitors a sense of relaxation knowing that their animal is in excellent hands and enjoy hotel luxuries.
For example, Hotel Diva features a “Dogs are Divas” overnight package that includes a soft throw rug for a luxurious nights’ sleep. A personal identification tag, treats and a one-hour VIP dog walk tour is included in the $250 deposit and $75 nonrefundable-cleaning fee.
The W Hotel offers a “P.A.W. Program” for cats and dogs. This package includes fresh-baked biscuits and assistance from the concierge on arranging pet sitting, walking, grooming and veterinarian services. The W Hotel charges a non-refundable $100 cleaning fee.
The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco, offers a pet package for dogs that weigh less than 10 pounds that includes an in-room dining menu featuring a Bow Wow buffet, custom made dog bed, treats and personalized dog tag for a non-refundable cleaning fee of $125.
For guests who want more personalized pet treatment, The Wag Hotel, where pets are their guests (no owners allowed), brings a new level of service and care to the Bay Area for $40 to $80 per day. A la carte services include swimming, extra walks, special food and playtime for $5 to $25 extra per day. The Wag Hotel features a 5,600-gallon indoor swimming pool, a rooftop lawn for walks and spacious indoor play areas. All guests receive a well-balanced diet and may relax to classical music. Spa services include massages, blueberry facials, and “paw-dicures.”
San Francisco welcomes pets to be a part of their owners’ traveling experience and enjoy their time in the City with plenty of parks to visit. Whether hotel accommodations are with their owners or “on their own,” pets never have to fear being “in the dog house” when vacation time rolls around.
