Copenhagen Quality of Life The English magazine "Monocle" recently named Copenhagen No. 1 on its list of the world's best cities for both design and quality of life. Setting Copenhagen apart from the pack are its outstanding urban design, architecture and food - and the way the city integrates these elements into everyday life, including its outstanding public transportation, its commitment to environmentally sound living, its green space and newly developed harbor swimming pools, its sensible and forward-thinking urban planning, and its overall ability to make life easy and "friction-free" for residents and visitors alike. In Copenhagen, people would rather get around by bike than pollute the air with auto emissions; organic food is served in restaurants and cafés as a matter of course, not a special indulgence; and residents are happy and content. Said the magazine, "Denmark's capital is, put simply, designed for life."

What's Cooking? As Copenhagen's culinary reputation continues to grow (eleven Michelin-starred restaurants, more than any other city in the Nordic region!) so does the reputation of the annual Copenhagen Cooking food festival. Now in its fourth year, Copenhagen Cooking invites everyone from fanatical foodies to nibblers and noshers to experience the best of Danish cuisine. Look for food sampling, wine tasting (yes, Denmark is a wine-producing nation), and cooking instruction, all with an emphasis on fresh, locally produced ingredients. Special attractions include the eat 08 food and lifestyle event at the Øksnehallen exhibition center, visits to the Avedøre vineyard and a cooking competition at Tivoli Gardens. Copenhagen Cooking runs August 22-31.
