The Third Mind: American Artists Contemplate Asia, 1860-1989
January 30 - April 19, 2009
(NEW YORK, NY - September 11, 2008) - From January 30 - April 19, 2009, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum will present The Third Mind: American Artists Contemplate Asia, 1860-1989, an exhibition that considers the dynamic and complex impact of Asian art, literature, music, and philosophical concepts on American art. The exhibition features approximately 270 works by more than 100 artists across a broad range of media, including painting, sculpture, video art, installations, works on paper, film, live performance, books and ephemera. The project received a $1 million Chairman's Special Award from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and an additional NEH planning grant. These NEH grants have been augmented by significant funding from the Terra Foundation for American Art, E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts and The W.L.S. Spencer Foundation.
Frank Lloyd Wright

(NEW YORK, NY - September 11, 2008) - Fifty years after the completion of Frank Lloyd Wright's most iconic work, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum will celebrate the golden anniversary of its landmark building with the exhibition Frank Lloyd Wright, on view from May 15 to August 23, 2009. The exhibition will examine Wright's vision for harmonious living through inventive spatial constructions designed to stimulate social engagement and integration with the natural world. Frank Lloyd Wright is co-organized by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, which owns and operates the Frank Lloyd Wright Archives, the primary source of loans to the exhibition.
Kandinsky
September 18, 2009 - January 10, 2010
(NEW YORK, NY - September 11, 2008) - Kandinsky, a full-scale retrospective of the visionary artist, theorist, abstraction pioneer, and seminal figure in the history of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum will be presented from September 18, 2009 to January 10, 2010. This exhibition is organized by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, New York, in cooperation with the Stadtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus und Kunstbau, Munich, and the Centre Pompidou, Paris. This retrospective will bring together more than 100 paintings drawn primarily from these three institutions, whose collections comprise the three largest repositories of Kandinsky in the world, as well as from significant private and public collections.
