Fall Camping and RVing Across British Columbia

10-03-2008

New Spirit of 2010 Trail Offers Fresh Discoveries

Vancouver, BC, October 1, 2008 - Fall brings a whole new camping and RVing experience to B.C. with changing seasons and the return of rich autumn colours. An abundance of weekend activities awaits travellers this season, especially with the brand new 750-kilometer Spirit of 2010 Trail now accessible.

Named for the enthusiastic spirit of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games to be hosted by Vancouver, B.C., the Spirit of 2010 Trail is the result of converting abandoned railway corridors into recreational trails, producing a world-class trail system through multiple regional destinations. Terrific for hiking, walking, cycling, horseback riding and cross-country skiing, RVers and campers can park their vehicles and access the trails for day trips from more than 30 B.C. communities.

British Columbia is divided into six tourism regions, and the Spirit of 2010 Trail offers a new attraction that spans the province going west through the Kootenay Rockies, the Thompson Okanagan and the Vancouver, Coast and Mountains regions. Though not continuous, the trail picks up on Vancouver Island (the Vancouver Island, Victoria & the Gulf Islands region) and continues through Shawnigan Lake, Duncan and as far west as Lake Cowichan.

A new website recently launched by the Camping and RVing BC Coalition (CRVBCC) and Tourism BC, www.campingrvbc.com, supplies free, easy-to-access information to these and other "off the beaten track" experiences. It is a one stop online shop that will link people to the camping and RVing options available to them. This makes trip planning so much easier as the province is home to seven national parks, 340 provincial parks, municipal sites, 1,200 forest recreation camps on Crown land, and 500-plus private RV parks and campgrounds.

For those interested in camping along the Spirit of 2010 Trail, more information can be found at http://www.spiritof2010trail.ca/
