Kick Off Denver’s 150-Year Celebration at the 2008 Champagne Cascade

10-15-2008

Enjoy a slice of history…and a slice of birthday cake too!

DENVER, COLO. (Oct. 14, 2008) – On Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, patrons are invited to celebrate Denver’s 150-year anniversary at The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa’s 21st champagne Cascade, one of the city’s grandest traditions featuring a special brass quintet performance from the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.

At noon, the official Champagne Cascade ceremony begins. With the stroke of an antique Napoleonic saber, a master swordsman will sever the necks of Moet et Chandon champagne bottles.

Once opened, the champagne will be poured into the uppermost glass of the elaborate 6,000-glass pyramid rising nearly two stories in the hotel’s atrium lobby.

Following the ceremony, guests can have complimentary photos taken in front of the cascade, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and enjoy a slice of birthday cake in honor of Denver’s 150-year celebration.

The Champagne Cascade complements The Brown Palace’s lavish Sunday Brunch, served in Ellyngton’s and the Prospector Suite from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Reservations for brunch are now being taken at 303-297-3111.

A special VIP area complete with champagne & hors d’oeuvres, and premier viewing of the event are available for $250 for a table of four, with all proceeds going directly towards supporting the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. Reservations for the VIP area can be made at www.BrownPalace.com or 303-297-3111.

Open to the public. Free Admission. Reservations are not required to view the event.

The art of sabering to open a champagne bottle was first practiced by Napoleon Bonaparte’s troops for victory celebrations.  Because there are 100 pounds of pressure per square inch in a bottle of champagne, the saber must strike exactly at the neck for proper opening.
