Reservations Available Now for Dine About Town San Francisco Jan. 15-31, 2009Foodies are flocking to the Web site for the eighth annual Dine About Town San Francisco Jan. 15-31, 2009, www.onlyinsanfrancisco.com/dineabouttown. Diners may select from more than 100 Bay Area restaurants, each offering prix-fixe lunches for $21.95 and/or dinners for $34.95, exclusive of tax and gratuity. Dates and times of participation vary by restaurant. A la carte menus will also be available. Reservations are encouraged and may be made online through a partnership with OpenTable.com. On Jan. 14 meet Dine About Town featured chefs at a launch party in The Cellar at Macy''s Union Square beginning at 6 p.m. With a $20 donation to Meals On Wheels, guests will receive 10 "tasting tickets" to sample offerings from select Dine About Town restaurants. Among the restaurants participating in The Cellar event are Cafe Andree; Campton Place Restaurant; Chez Papa Resto; Colibri Mexican Bistro; Daffodil; Fish & Farm; First Crush Restaurant, Wine Bar & Lounge; Level III; Market Street Grill; Roots, and XYZ. ‘Tis the Season: ‘Shop SF, Get More’ Includes More than 200 Discounts and Promotions for San Francisco Bay Area ResidentsWorking with local agencies including the San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau, the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, the Union Square Association and various city departments, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has created a citywide incentive program to encourage local and Bay Area residents to visit, shop, and stay in San Francisco during December and January. The “Shop SF, Get More” campaign offers special discounts and promotions exclusively for residents of the nine Bay Area counties: San Francisco, Alameda, Marin, Solano, Napa, Sonoma, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Santa Clara.
Components of the program include:
- Show Your Zip Code: Residents in the nine-county Bay Area are eligible to receive special discounts, by showing their ZIP code at participating merchants.
- Parking and Public Transit Discounts: Ride Muni and explore San Francisco on one transfer all day, every Sunday with the Sunday FunDay Pass. Cars with a minimum of three occupants entering designated city-owned parking garages receive special validation under the Ride with More, Park for Less incentive program.
- Hotels: San Francisco hotels are offering reduced rates, complimentary parking and breakfast, and a variety of discounted holiday packages. In January, select San Francisco hotels will be offering “3 Nights for the Price of 2.”
- Restaurants: Through the Show Your Zip Code program, residents are eligible for special promotions at select San Francisco restaurants.
- Shop Local: Special promotions and shopping events are occurring in unique neighborhood commercial districts across the city, including late night shopping, street lighting events and weekend sidewalk sales.
- Museums: Free days and free child admissions at many of the city’s finest cultural institutions.

President-Elect Obama Joins the Famous and Infamous at San Francisco’s Wax Museum at Fisherman’s WharfRight around the time that Barack Obama is settling in at the White House, he’ll also be taking up residence a coast away at San Francisco’s famed Wax Museum at Fisherman’s Wharf, 145 Jefferson St. Also joining him will be Justin Timberlake, who beat out competitors Dale Earnhardt and Tupac Shakur in an online poll. The Wax Museum’s collection in 2009 will also be expanded to include a new “age-accurate” Queen Elizabeth and the teen sensation Miley “Hannah Montana” Cyrus. Earlier this year, a team of Bay Area celebrity judges, led by “Mr. San Francisco Nightlife,” Harry Denton of Starlight Room fame, voted to include Mother Theresa, Prince William and Mariah Carey who will round out the new “cabinet” for the Wax Museum in 2009. “Wicked” Returns to San Francisco. For Good. Tickets on Sale Now for “Wicked”There really is no place like home. The city that launched the international smash hit musical will get its very own production when “Wicked” sweeps in to the Orpheum Theatre, 1192 Market St., beginning performances on Jan. 27, 2009. Following its 2003 world premiere in San Francisco, “Wicked” went on to cast its spell on Broadway, winning 20 major awards, including the Grammy Award, three Tony Awards and six Drama Desk Awards including Best Musical. The “New York Times” calls “Wicked” "Broadway's biggest blockbuster" and "one of the most successful shows in Broadway history," and “Variety” says that "‘Wicked’ is a cultural phenomenon." Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman, “Wicked” is the untold story of the witches of Oz: the remarkable odyssey of two unlikely friends who grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch. Macworld Conference & Expo Returns to San Francisco's Moscone Center Jan. 5-9, 2009The Macworld Conference & Expo is scheduled to take place Jan. 5-9, 2009 at San Francisco's Moscone Center. Featuring six unique programs — Users Conference, MacIT Conference, Power Tools, Hands-on MacLabs, Market Symposiums and Creative Safari — and more than 200 sessions led by 225 presenters, Macworld draws audiences in creative services, education, application development, entertainment, small office/home office and Internet-based environments. The Macworld Music Studio, in collaboration with Boston's Berklee College of Music, will be an expanded show floor attraction with instruction, demonstrations, performances and training on how to use the Mac to bring musical visions to life. Every year Macworld's "First Looks Program" is the launch venue for dozens of new products.
