For those skiers that didn’t get enough skiing in this winter, head to Chile this summer for epic skiing at Ski Portillo. The 2009 ski season will run from June 13 – Oct. 3, 2009. Ski Portillo was named one of the Top 10 Ski Resorts in the World. Ski Portillo is an intimate resort in the Andes that accommodates only 450 guests a week, offering an exclusive and hassle-free winter vacation. There are no lift lines or crowded slopes, and stretches of untouched terrain and freshly groomed runs beckon skiers of all abilities. Portillo receives an annual average of 450 inches of snowfall and nearly 300 days of sunshine. Ski Portillo is the perfect destination for an adventure vacation full of heli-skiing, a family vacation with kids races and kids stay free weeks, a vacation with friends or a singles vacation to meet the love of your life (this has happened many times in Portillo). This year Ski Portillo has events that will appeal to all types of interests. See below for a list of events.
Despite the demand for real estate development, Portillo owner Henry Purcell chose to forgo the gains from growth and has adopted a no-sprawl ethic. Purcell’s philosophy is to maintain the pristine beauty of Portillo, including the Lake of the Incas, which is Portillo’s centrepiece. There is only one main hotel with no condominiums or shopping centers. There are no TVs in guest rooms to encourage a social atmosphere. In a world quick to commercialize, Portillo proudly remains unique, private and grand. A week at Ski Portillo includes lift tickets, lodging and four meals a day in the luxurious dining room.
