STEP RIGHT UP AND SEE A PLAY USING THE "PLAY ONLY" WINDOW AT TKTS TIMES SQUARE.

11-08-2007

New York, New York, November 7, 2007 - In order to stimulate attendance at non-musical productions, Theatre Development Fund maintains a special "Play Only" ticket window at its TKTS Booth in Times Square. At the "Play Only" window (which is window #12 at TDF's temporary TKTS Booth outside the NY Marriott Marquis on 46th Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue), there is rarely a wait for theatergoers to purchase same-day discount tickets for dramas and comedies playing on and Off Broadway during regular TKTS hours.

With the current influx of so many non-musical productions this fall, there was a record number of shows available at this dedicated ticket window last week, where there is rarely a wait of more than a few minutes.  Last week  there were 27 shows  - 10 Broadway productions and 17 Off Broadway productions available at the "Play Only" window.

"We have found that the 'Play Only' window has been of great service to New Yorkers and tourists who enjoy seeing the newest plays on and Off Broadway, but are sometimes daunted by the lines at TKTS when we first open in the afternoon," said Victoria Bailey, TDF's executive director. "Having a ticket window just to sell dramas and comedies has proven to be a win-win situation for both the customers and the productions."

The shows available* last week at TKTS's "Play Only" window in Times Square were the Broadway productions of  A Bronx Tale, August: Osage County, Cymbelline, Cyrano de Bergerac, The Farnsworth Invention, Mauritius, Pygmalion, The Ritz, Rock 'n' Roll and The Seafarer; and the Off Broadway productions of Acts of Love, Crime and Punishment, Die Mommie Die, Gazillion Bubble Show, The Glorious Ones, Gone Missing, The Joy Luck Club, Jump, My First Time, My Mother's Italian..., Ohio State Murders, The Overwhelming, Perfect Crime, The Rise of Dorothy Hale, Sive, Spain and Things We Want.

How to use the "Play Only" window at TKTS Times Square:
When you get to TKTS, check the board that displays what shows are on sale.  Any show with a "P" next to the title is also available at the "Play Only" window.  Walk up to the window with the sign "Play Only" above it (window #12) and get your tickets! Of course, you can buy a play at any TKTS ticket window, but why wait if you don't have to? (unless you want to chat with other TKTS patrons about what they've seen!)

TKTS Times Square hours: Monday - Saturday - 3pm - 8pm for 8pm performances (on Tuesdays open at 2pm for 7pm performances); Wednesday and Saturdays from 10am - 2pm for 2pm matinees; Sundays - 11am - 3pm for matinees performances; 3pm - 7pm for evening performances.

For a shorter wait for all shows, you may want to check out TDF's Lower Manhattan TKTS Booth at South Street Seaport (corner of Front and John Streets).  Hours for this location are: Monday - Saturday from 11am - 6pm for evening performances;  Sundays from  11am - 4pm for evening performances.  Matinee performances are sold only on the day before the performance at this location (i.e., Wednesday matinees sold on Tuesday, Saturday matinees sold on Friday,  Sunday matinees sold on Saturday.)
