Date: March 1 - 18
Location: Sharky’s Beach Front Restaurant & Tiki Bar
15201 Front Beach Road, Panama City Beach, Fla.
Originator of this new competitive sport in North America, Beach Tennis USA® presents its Spring Break Challenge as a series of exhibitions and open “free play”. Visitors watch as athletes compete in this fast-paced game, which combines elements of tennis and beach volleyball. Played on a 30’ X 60’ sand court, beach tennis allows each team to use standard tennis racquets to hit a slightly depressurized tennis ball back and forth over the net without letting it hit the sand. Dubbed by many as “The X-Games of tennis”, the sport is highly competitive when played on the pro level, while easy to learn for beginners.
Beach tennis was launched in the U.S. as a pro and recreational sport in 2005 by New York City real estate developer Marc Altheim. Beach Tennis combines tennis and beach volleyball into one exciting and fast-paced game.
