BACKGROUND ON THE WILLOWS HISTORIC PALM SPRINGS INN:
Built in 1924, the Willows was originally the winter home of Samuel Untermyer, the famous New York attorney who was the first to make a million dollar fee for a single case. Designed by architects Dodd & Richards, the Inn’s Spanish Mediterranean Revival architecture is enhanced by elegant interiors featuring decorative wrought iron works, mahogany beams, frescoed ceilings, and a dramatic waterfall that cascades down sheer granite mountain walls just steps from the Inn’s dining room.
The Willows Historic Palm Springs Inn has a celebrated history, serving as the home of Marion Davies, life-long companion of the iconoclastic publisher William Randolph Hearst. The famous couple hosted numerous luminaries such as Shirley Temple and Albert Einstein. Seeking seclusion and privacy, Clark Gable and Carole Lombard honeymooned at the Davies home.
In 1996, Los Angeles-area ER physicians Tracy Conrad and Paul Marut, purchased The Willows and turned the historic home into an elegant inn after meticulously restoring it to its former grandeur. The husband and wife team painstakingly removed decades of misguided décor to reveal the home’s original exquisite details.
Each of the eight guest rooms are elegantly appointed with antique furniture, fine linens, luxurious private baths, hand-made tiles, stone fireplaces, hardwood floors, private garden patios, and picturesque mountain and garden vistas. While the Inn celebrates its historic roots, it also offers guests 21st century amenities such as WiFi, cable television, DVD, CD players and individual room climate control.
