May 5, 2009 -- NY, NY -- Get ready to hoist your main, set your sails and point your imagination toward the horizon. Get riverbound with Manhattan by Sail (formerly Shearwater Sailing) to experience New York City from a whole new perspective.
Our fleet of historic schooners are changing the landscape of the Manhattan skyline. Shearwater, the first schooner in the fleet, is a casually classic 48-passenger vessel who made her debut in New York harbor almost 80 years ago. Having just received her national landmark status, she is the "wise woman" of the harbor and prides herself on giving even the most jaded New Yorker a brand new way to experience New York City.
Her sister, the Clipper City, one of America's largest operating tall ships, is the newest addition to our fleet and to New York Harbor. From water to sky she is 120' high and from stern to bow she's 158' of grace, spectacle, style and personality.
Starting May 20th Clipper City hosts daily 90-minute sails from South Street Seaport, Pier 17 at 10:00am, 12:30pm, 3:00pm and 7:00pm. Tickets $39, adults, $35 seniors 65+ and $17 for kids under 12.
Once aboard let Clipper City be your guide to breathtaking views of the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan skyline and other gems of the harbor. Breathe in the unexpectedly salty air and bask in the sunshine while being entertained by a chorus of seagulls, foghorns and a random egret in flight only blocks away from the hustle of Wall Street and the bustle of Times Square.

Kids Cruise: The Clipper City loves kids. Every morning her crew hoists her sails for a family friendly voyage around Manhattan. Kids have a chance to learn to tie knots, take a time at the wheel, and who knows, maybe even battle a pirate or two while mom or dad take a breather and take in the spectacular views. Departs South Street Seaport, Pier 17 at 10:00am. Tickets: $39 per adult, kids under 12 free with every adult ticket purchased. Tickets for additional kids, $17 each, tickets for additional adults $39.
Family of Four Package: Bring the kids, bring the grandparents. Heck, bring the whole family (traditional or not) on any Clipper City cruise and take advantage of this specially priced family package for four. Tickets $84, includes one adult, 1 child under 12 and any two other family members. $20, each additional grandparent. Valid on all Clipper City 90-minute daytime cruises. NOTE: This is a savings of up to 40% off of regular ticket prices.
Chill Out New York: exclusively for New Yorkers It's at least 10 degrees cooler on the water, and Manhattan by Sail president Tom Berton thinks that's very cool. So, when the temps hit 90 degrees (or higher) residents of New York City are invited to be Tom's guest on the Clipper City to chill out for the very cool ticket price of $10. Tickets must be purchased at the Clipper City at the time of sail and are available on a first come, first served basis. All tickets $10. Valid New York City ID required. Valid on all Clipper City 90-minute cruises departing South Street Seaport, Pier 17.
For a more intimate sailing experience, the Shearwater has daily departures from North Cove Marina at the World Financial Center. Monday through Saturday at 10:15 am, 12:30pm, 2:45pm, and on Sunday at 2:00pm May 1 - November 1.
Sit back and relax as you breeze by the Statue of Liberty, skim the Brooklyn Bridge and soak in the Manhattan skyline aboard this historic wooden ocean cruiser constructed of pure teak, mahogany and Georgia pine. All cruises on the Shearwater include unlimited beer, wine and soft drinks. Cash bar available for mixed drinks.

Random Sunset Sails: Manhattan by Sail's president Tom Berton likes to sail. His favorite time to sail is as the sun is setting and the lights of the city begin to bounce off of the water. Every so often, when the Shearwater is not being used for private charter, Tom and his crew organize a random Sunset Sail. These two-hour sails depart North Cove Marina at the World Financial Center at about 7:30pm (departure time adjusted to follow the sunset). Full Moon Sail: It's romantic. It's serene. It only happens five times this season. Climb aboard Shearwater and follow the full moon as it hangs over the horizon on this 90-minute sail on the Hudson. City Lights Cruise: Bask in the glow of the lights of the city as they dance across the river beneath you while Shearwater cruises out past the Statue of Liberty. Catch the glow of her torch and enjoy sweeping views of the city in twinkle. This 90-minute cruise departs North Cove Marina every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night from May through October at 9:30pm. Tickets: Adults, $45, Seniors 65+ $3, includes unlimited beer, wine, soft drinks. Cash bar available for mixed drinks, champagne. NOTE: This cruise has a 100% success rate for marriage proposals.
Prosecco Brunch Cruise: Quench your thirst and let the salt and wind stir up your appetite. The first Sunday brunch by sail in New York Harbor. The Shearwater's 2-hour Prosecco Brunch offers a casual buffet brunch to satisfy even the most discriminating foodie. Departs North Cove Marina at 11:00am. Returns 1:00pm. Tickets, Adults and Seniors, $79.00, Children under 12, $39.00. Includes brunch and unlimited prosecco, beer and wine.
Sun Days of Wine and Culture: Led by wine expert, author and connoisseur Felicia Sherbert, this 2-hour cruise will teach you everything you want to know about fine wines. Sample a pleasing variety of wines from the refined wine cellars of Frederick Wildman & Bros. and more. Departs North Cove Marina every Sunday in May through October at 4:30pm, Tickets, $95. Includes wine, cheese, light snacks. Adults 21+ only.
