THE MEXICO TOURISM BOARD NAMES INTERNATIONALLY KNOWN CONDUCTOR ALONDRA DE LA PARRA ASCULTURAL AMBASSADOR FOR MEXICO’S TOURISM

Miami, FL April May 13^th, 2009 – The Mexico Tourism Board has chosen Mexican Orchestra Conductor, Alondra de la Parra, as Cultural Ambassador for Mexico’s Tourism. Having earned a place as one of the most promising conductors on the international conducting scene today, Alondra now has the significant role of directing Mexico’s rich culture, divine beauty and essence through her work in music. 

 

One of the most compelling conductors of her generation, de la Parra was recently named one of six "Young Artists on the Rise" by Symphony magazine, and she also holds the distinction of being the first woman from Mexico to conduct in New York City. By joining forces with Mexico, she hopes to showcase the cultural diversity of her country as her inspiration for her work.

 

 “Alondra has the ability to inspire her fans and followers. She is a vibrant, reflection of what Mexico is composed of and is the perfect fit for what a cultural ambassador embodies. The Mexico Tourism Board chose her because of her cultural, musical and distinguished artistic beauties that accurately reflect those of Mexico. We are thrilled that she has joined us on this journey.” said Oscar Fitch, CEO of the Mexico Tourism Board.

 

Alondra, who at just 28 leads the New York-based Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, offers spellbinding and vibrant performances that have garnered the attention of international and national media, hailing her as being "uncommonly gifted, her blood and bones breathe music.”

 

"Mexico is like a symphony played by an orchestra.  It is a dynamic score filled with emotion, colors, tastes and joyful harmonies, rich in history but reinventing itself every day.  Its score engages your soul and transports you to distant places with no boundaries, taking you from the quiet sounds of the Sonora desert, to the loud and dense impenetrable jungles of the Mayan territory, to the soothing sounds of its golden beaches at sunset.  Mexico fills your senses with passion and its magical wonders are always a strong source of inspiration."

Among her recent conducting highlights are concerts with the Houston Symphony, the San Antonio Symphony, and the Singapore Sun Festival Orchestra where she collaborated with the actor Geoffrey Rush. She also recorded and served as music producer for the soundtrack of the new movie by Michel Gondry, acclaimed French director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

 

Most recently, De la Parra conducted a gala concert with the Washington National Opera and Placido Domingo, entitled "Placido Domingo Sings: From My Latin Soul." She will also be collaborating with Mexican Tenor Rolando Vallazon in concerts this summer.

About Alondra de la Parra

In 2004, at the age of only 23, Alondra de la Parra founded the New York-based Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas with the mission to promote the work of young soloists and composers of the American continent. Since its founding, POA has engaged in international tours, produced recordings, as well as initiating a Young Composers´ Competition and establishing an Arts and Education Program. During the summer of 2009, POA will be in residence at Napa Valley´s (CA) Festival del Sole and the Stowe Summer Music Festival (VT). Alondra de la Parra lives in New York City.
