Voluntourism Package Offers Guests the Chance to Appreciate and Preserve Local Resort Environments While Getting Special Perks and Discounted Rates
Broomfield, Colo. - May 14, 2009 - Looking for a way to give AND get? RockResorts, a wholly owned subsidiary of Vail Resorts, Inc. announced today that after two successful years of Colorado voluntourism opportunities for guests, the company has expanded its "Give & Getaway" package. This rewarding travel option is now offered across the company's nine resorts and throughout Keystone and Breckenridge Hospitality and in Grand Teton National Park. Guests can now preserve surrounding resort environments from farms in St. Lucia to the mountains of Jackson Hole.
Unique projects offered as part of the Give & Getaway package are centered around contributions to the surrounding community and based in natural resource conservation and preservation. "Give & Getaway" opportunities include recreational trail restoration, working with sustainable local farmers, forest health and supporting local stream and river ecosystems. Full day, half-day and multi-day projects are available. Guests have the option to choose their accommodations from family style to high-end lodging. Participants are not required to pay for these volunteer experiences, and instead receive a discounted lodging rate and value-added amenities. Full details of each volunteer opportunity can be found on www.giveandgetaway.com.
"The Give & Getaway package has been a successful initiative to promote conservation of the spectacular environments of our Colorado resorts and help our guests find even more value in their vacations," said Stan Brown, President of RockResorts. "It is just one valuable extension of our company's commitment to the environment and philosophy to preserve it in a rewarding and interactive way. We know that especially in today's economy, guests want to feel good about the vacations they take, and this program guarantees an exceptional hotel experience with a unique opportunity to positively impact the environment. This way they can make a contribution that they can enjoy on a return visit to the destination."
Through a special fundraising partnership with the National Forest Foundation, Vail Resorts and RockResorts have raised more than $1.2 million including matching funds thus far to non-profit organizations for area conservation efforts in the White River National Forest in Colorado and the Lake Tahoe Basin in California and Nevada. Vail Resorts continues to offer guests at its five mountain resorts the opportunity to participate in this special fundraising effort by contributing $1 on season ski passes, $1 on online lift ticket transactions, and $1 per room night at its Colorado-based lodging properties. Similar fundraising efforts across the RockResorts brand support other local non-profit organizations.
Each dollar raised is matched with 50 cents by the National Forest Foundation. For more information on Vail Resorts' partnership with the National Forest Foundation, visit the Press Room at www.rockresorts.com.
