“We are so excited about having the beach at Cape Hatteras make Dr. Beach’s list again this year,” says Aaron Tuell, Director of Public Relations for the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau. “What a wonderful way to kick off Memorial Day Weekend, which is the official start of the summer tourism season for us. It is such an honor to be ranked among some really incredible beaches across the country. We are very proud of our heritage as America’s Beach, with the Cape Hatteras National Seashore being our country’s first national seashore established in 1953, and having some of the most beautiful, clean and undeveloped beaches in the United States.”
The Cape Hatteras National Seashore stretches for 70 miles from the town of Nags Head to the village of Ocracoke, and comprises 30,000 acres of natural, windswept beaches and maritime wilderness, along with historic American icons like the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, Chicamacomico Historical Site, and the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum.
