PURE MICHIGAN STARS ON BROADWAY

At the corner of 7th Avenue and 48th Street in New York’s Time Square, Pure Michigan will reach new heights with four mega outdoor billboards as part of Michigan’s first-ever national tourism advertising campaign launched earlier this year. The pure and fresh waters of the Great Lakes State and its beaches take center stage for 8 weeks overlooking Broadway. Nearly 500,000 people visit the Times Square area daily, considered the “crossroads of the world.” In addition to the Times Square billboards, a $10 million national cable TV campaign features four new commercials that are airing more than 5,000 times on 15 cable channels.

PURE MICHIGAN SET TO SAIL

Pure Michigan has come aboard as the 2009 title sponsor for the annual Port Huron to Mackinac race event. The Pure Michigan Bayview Mackinac Race sets sail on Saturday,

July 25, 2009. For the first time sailing fans in Michigan and around the world will be able to monitor the historic race via the michigan.org Web site with Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking technology. This year will mark 85 consecutive years for the world class event that will set sail from Port Huron to Mackinac Island. More than 250 sailboats and 2,500 sailors will take part in the annual regatta. ARTFUL WINES

The Ella Sharp Museum of Art and History in Jackson, will be teaming up with the

Southeast Michigan Pioneer Wine Trail to present the Ella Sharp Art & Wine Festival on Saturday, June 13 from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. Held on the grounds of the Ella Sharp Museum, the event takes place within the courtyard of the museum's historic Hillside Farm Lane. The event is free to the public with affordable passes for wine-tasting. The  useum has five galleries, including the Midwest's finest wildlife art collection, Ella Sharp's 19th century farmhouse, Ella's Granary Restaurant, and a beautiful Museum campus await visitors inside the Ella Sharp Park.

GRAND MARSHALL ROCK

Detroit’s own Kid Rock will serve as Grand Marshal for the LifeLock 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, June 14. The multi-platinum recording artist will headline pre-race activities, including being recognized during driver introductions, give the famous command for drivers to start their engines and ride in the Grand Marshal car leading the field during the ceremonial parade laps.

 

ROVING FEAST

Modeled after many highly successful restaurant weeks throughout the country, Ann Arbor’s Main Street Area Association will present the city’s inaugural Restaurant Week from June 14-19. Restaurant Week offers food lovers the opportunity to try many fabulous restaurants in downtown Ann Arbor at economical fixed prices. ENGINEER A GOOD TIME

Experience architecture, engineering and the lore of the Great Lakes at Soo Locks Engineer’s Day on Friday, June 26 from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. Visitors have the rare opportunity to walk across the Lock walls as well as tour other facilities such as the Edison Sault Hydroelectric Power Plant and LSSU Aquatics Lab and climb observation platforms to watch the mammoth freighters ply the waters of the St. Marys River system.
