Cambridge/Guernsey County, Ohio offers Think Pink” getaway packages
CAMBRIDGE, OH (June 9, 2009) – RETREAT, RELAX, REJOICE…in a perfect rural setting. Whether you choose to shop ‘til you drop, take a nature hike, enjoy the sights and sounds of the holidays, or pamper yourself, Cambridge/Guernsey County has four perfect getaway packages for you and your girlfriends that provide a vacation – with a purpose.
“Vacations with a purpose are gaining more interest every year,” Cambridge/Guernsey County Visitors & Convention Bureau Executive Director Debbie Robinson said. “People are traveling during their time off from work, but also are interested in helping others. People want to feel like they are contributing something to a community or cause, that betters someone else’s life. This year the VCB wanted to provide just such an opportunity within our immediate community.”
Working with Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center (Southeastern Med), together the two organizations have created multiple “Think Pink” getaway packages in Guernsey County. A portion of each package sold is donated to Southeastern Med’s Pink Link Pass, a program for underinsured or uninsured women so that they may receive a free mammogram.
“While our visitors are relaxing on a perfect getaway in Southeastern Ohio with their girlfriends, sisters, mothers, or co-workers, they can rejoice because they may be saving the lives of other ‘girlfriends’,” Robinson said.
Funding for the free mammogram program will be derived from Think Pink: Getaways with a Purpose sold to women from throughout Ohio and its feeder markets. The Colgate-Palmolive Company Facility in Cambridge, Ohio will match the funds raised for the Pink Link Program up to $500 in 2009.
Four Think Pink packages are being created. The first, on August 8, 2009 will have an art theme. Participants will attend the Salt Fork Arts & Crafts Festival (SFACF), the National Museum of Cambridge Glass, and Georgetown Vineyards. The package will also include lunch at My SweeTea Pie Tea Boutique. Participants will also be encouraged to shop in local retail stores during their stay. A portion of their package cost will be donated to Southeastern Med for their Pink Link Pass.
The second Think Pink Women’s Getaway Weekend will take place during Dickens
Victorian Village in November or December 2009. Participants will have an opportunity to attend a Christmas concert, ride the Byesville Scenic Railway, and enjoy tea and a tour at the Colonel Taylor Inn. Lodging and dining will be included.
The third and fourth weekends will take place in 2010 at dates yet-to-be- determined. The third weekend will offer items for women to pamper themselves with a spa treatment, a style show, and shopping perhaps during October since it is breast cancer awareness month and Southeastern Med holds its annual “Look Good Feel Better” Style Show. For the fourth weekend, women will have the opportunity to participate in eco-friendly activities including a tour of the Wilds and the Guernsey County Farmers Market.
In each of these packages, all attractions, events, restaurants, and lodging facilities are asked to donate a portion of their price to Pink Link Pass. Artists participating in the SFACF will be asked to create one item to sell during the festival. A portion of the cost would be donated to Pink Link Pass. The Eastern Ohio Art Guild is creating a traveling photo exhibit of cancer survivors. Fees collected for displaying the exhibit will be donated to Pink Link Pass.
