Bounty of Fall Opportunities at the Wilds

CUMBERLAND, Ohio (Sept. 15, 2009) – The beautiful fall season provides a wonderful opportunity for extraordinary experiences at the Wilds, one of the largest and most innovative wildlife conservation centers in the world. Located on nearly 10,000 acres in southeast Ohio, it is home to rare and endangered species from around the world living in natural, open-range habitat.

 

With the visitor season open through Oct. 31, there is still plenty of time to plan a day or overnight visit to enjoy all the Wilds has to offer.

 

Nomad Ridge at the Wilds offers an adult-only overnight getaway experience available daily through Oct. 31. Guests stay in well-appointed luxury yurts, which are round, tent-like structures. Each features a private bathroom and deck with views of the sweeping landscape. The overnight package includes dinner, breakfast, concierge service and choice of a Safari Transport or Open-Air Safari tour.

 

New this year, the private Wildside Tour provides guests an off-road and close-up safari experience that may also include visits to animal management areas to see the Wilds team at work. Because guests ride in the back of a specialized safari truck, the tour can accommodate a maximum of six people. Reservations are required for this tour, offered daily through Oct. 31.

 

Sunset Safaris are offered every Friday and Saturday evening through September. These special tours include an Open-Air Safari during the beautiful late-afternoon light followed by dinner at the Overlook Café. Reservations are required. Space is still available Sept. 18, 25, and 26.

 

For those wanting an extended weekend learning opportunity, the Wilds Photo Safari Camp takes place Oct. 2-4. Facilitated by professional wildlife photographers, this overnight camp allows plenty of opportunity to explore the flora, fauna, and varied habitats of the Wilds. Participants stay in rustic yurts at the Wilds’ education camp. Reservations are required, and space is limited.

 

And of course, the Wilds’ signature tours – the Safari Transport Pass and the Open-Air Safari, are offered Saturdays and Sundays only through Oct. 31. No reservations are required for these tours that depart regularly from the Wilds’ visitor center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Although the Wilds’ visitor season officially ends Oct. 31, special Winter Safari Tours will be available by reservation on select Saturdays November through March.
