MARIETTA, OH (November 23, 2009) – Marietta merchants and area organizations are making out their Christmas wish lists early in hopes that old St. Nick will leave behind a jolly, but busy, holiday shopping season.
Avoid the traffic and enjoy a slower pace on the charming city streets during the Hometown Holiday Weekends from November 27 to December 13. During the weekends there will be special activities, a gingerbread exhibit, Christmas tree lighting, free carriage rides and tours of lofts, homes and churches and much more!
To kick off the season’s festivities, Downtown Marietta merchants will host the second annual Merry-Etta Moonlight Savings event Friday, December 4 from 5 p.m. to Midnight. Shop til’ you drop at participating area merchants for a chance to receive up to 50% off your entire purchase that evening! When you reach the register with your purchases, draw a “Snowball” from the bucket of savings for a chance to receive a discount of 10-50% off.
The Marietta Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony will also take place on December 4 at 6:00 p.m. at Armory Square. On December 4, during the tree lighting and moonlight savings sale, there will be Christmas Carolers from the Open Door Baptist Church singing for our visitors throughout downtown on a horse drawn hay wagon from 6 to 8 p.m. In addition, the Downtown Holiday Loft Tour will be on Dec. 5 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and includes a look at downtown loft locations decorated for the season.
“The Hometown Holiday Weekends are really a chance to enjoy downtown Marietta with special activities and holiday shopping opportunities,” Marietta/Washington County CVB Executive Director Wendy Wharff said. “The CVB has worked with area merchants for a couple of years now to create this special shopping event for downtown Marietta. The idea is to have a special night of activities and shopping that the entire community may enjoy in a festive holiday atmosphere.”
