And here's an amusing anecdote from Wildland Adventures founder, Kurt Kutay…
"The first Wildland Adventures trip I led, I remember laughing with the group as we were pulling up to some thatched huts of Yagua Indians on a small island on the Amazon River. We saw the local natives run into their hut in Levis and t-shirts and come out to greet us in grass skirts with faces painted. They showed us their blow guns and how they live. So, I decided from that moment on that "authenticity" in travel doesn't mean native people should be expected to dress differently or put on a performance, but rather be given the opportunity to be themselves so that hosts and guests can share an honest reflection of life, past, present and our individual hopes for the future."
