VOLUME #23: JANUARY 10

Once a month the Kansas Travel & Tourism Division distributes this brief newsletter, providing tourism updates from throughout the state of Kansas.  Highlights include a title, brief descriptor and a link for more details.   Not all highlights will be of interest to everyone.  They are simply intended to entice new story ideas in the areas of agritourism, outdoor, culinary, cultural, history, heritage and more.

Whether travelers are looking for new experiences with cuisine, att! ractions or cultural exhibits on their next vacation, Kansas is increasingly being recognized for a number of opportunities that are unique and provide families with some great options.  Here’s just a sampling.

Cozy Inn in Salina, KS Makes Travel Channel’s Top 101 List:  Already a popular favorite for many Kansans across the state, the Cozy Inn in Salina is receiving some well-deserved national recognition. The historic diner recently ranked #69 on the Travel Channel’s 101 Tastiest Places to Chow Down.  It was also named one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas Cuisine by the Kansas Sampler Foundation.  The Cozy Inn has been grilling onion-filled sliders, and only that, since 1922.  After 87 years with their single location in Salina, a new Cozy Inn location is set to open this summer in Manhattan.&n! bsp; Visit www.cozyburger.com.

Kansas Underground Salt Museum Receives Coveted Google Designation:  Google, the world’s leading search engine, has designated the Kansas Underground Salt Museum in Hutchinson as a “Favorite Place on Google,” acknowledging the significant number of its users who searched Kansas Underground Salt Museum on Google for driving directions and general information.  Because of that popularity, Google sent an interactive window decal that declares the Salt Museum is a "Favorite Place on Google." The decal includes a special bar code that visitors can scan with cameras on their phones to directly access the museum’s listing on Google, read and write reviews, and add the museum as a favorite if they hadn’t already.  Visit www.undergroundmuseum.org for more information

The Art of Norman Rockwell coming to the Wichita Art Museum:  Norman Rockwell painted the hopes and dreams of an American generation. American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell opens at the Wichita Art Museum on March 7th, and will be on view through May 30th, 2010. The collection of more than forty oils and pencil works of art explores the popularity and broad appeal of Norman Rockwell's imagery through six decades of his career.  The exhibition includes some of the artist's signature works: No Swimming, Christmas Homecoming, Triple Self-Portrait, and his depiction of school desegregation in the south, The Problem We All Live With.  For more information visit www.wichitaartmuseum.org.
