ROBIN POPE SAFARIS TO OPEN LUXURY LODGE IN MALAWI
12-05-2007
LUSAKA, ZAMBIA (11/10) – Robin Pope Safaris, whose walking safaris in the South Luangwa Park in Zambia, have achieved worldwide recognition, is expanding into neighboring Malawi, with the introduction of Pumulani, the only luxury accommodation within Lake Malawi National Park. The Lodge is now taking bookings for availability in July 2008.
Consisting of a main lodge and ten separate stylish villas, Pumulani is located on a lush hillside overlooking the lake, which David Livingstone referred to as “Lake of Stars” and has been designated as a World Heritage Site. The dining and bar area features an expansive deck offering spectacular views. Meals will be served both inside and outside and serving times are according to a guest’s schedule. The Infinity swimming pool will be located on a lower terraced deck and a lake shore bar will offer light snacks and refreshments throughout the day.
Each of the villas will consist of a spacious bedroom, bathroom, and sitting area, opening to a large deck and magnificent views beyond. Cooling grassed roofs have been designed to blend in with the rocks and trees surrounding each villa. One of the villas has been planned especially for honeymooners and one is a family villa that sleeps four or five persons.
Activities at Pumulani will include snorkeling, kayaking, water skiing, fun tube, wake boarding, sailing, fishing and scuba diving. Guests may sail on the Lodge’s 40 ft. wooden dhow, handcrafted by local inhabitants of Likoma Island. It’s a great way to view one of Malawi’s beautiful sunsets over the lake. With an abundance of birdlife around Lake Malawi, birdwatchers will be in Paradise at Pumulani.
Known as the “Warm Heart of Africa,” Malawi is a landlocked country with Africa’s third largest lake, Lake Malawi, which extends almost the length of the country and has over 500 known species of fish that are not found anywhere else in the world. The Malawi population is made up of a number of tribes, thus creating a diversified and fascinating culture that today is not found anywhere else in Southern Africa..
Pumulani will be open from April 1 through January 04 starting 2009 (It will open on 01 July in 2008). Guests will be met at Kamuzu Airport in Lilongwe and guided through the immigration procedures. Rates start at US$300 to US$425 per person per night and will include accommodations, meals, road transfers to and from Club Makokola airstrip, laundry, bar and all non motorized water sports activities.
