Jomeokee Music Fest has Great Bluegrass/Traditional Music, May 14-15

    PINNACLE, N.C. - Some of the nation's top bluegrass and traditional musicians will take the stage at the fifth annual Jomeokee Music Festival. The
festival is May 14-15 at Jomeokee Campground and Music Park in western Stokes County, just below Pilot Mountain.
 
    Headlining this two-day fest is newgrass superstar John Cowan and his Nashville-based John Cowan Band, along with The Steep Canyon Rangers of Asheville,
named "emerging artist of the year" in 2006 at the International Bluegrass Music Awards. The Steep Canyon Rangers regularly play the top bluegrass and Americana festivals in the U.S., and are occasionally joined by comedian-turned-musician Steve Martin.
 
    The 15-band lineup also includes: Grasstowne, featuring Stokes County native and 2010 mandolin player of the year Alan Bibey; the Blues Creek Band of
Danbury, N.C.; and traditional bluegrass troubadours Junior Sisk and Ramblers Choice from Ferrum, Va.
 
    Jomeokee begins at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 14, with the last band hitting the stage at 9 p.m. that evening. On Saturday, May 15, the music begins at 11 a.m.
The Steep Canyon Rangers play Saturday evening at 7:45 p.m., with the John Cowan Band capping the festival at 9:15 p.m.
 
    Fans are encouraged to purchase two-day tickets and stay overnight at the Jomeokee Campground or the nearby Quality Inn & Suites of Pilot Mountain. Two-day advance tickets are $20 through April 30. The price rises to $20 per day beginning May 1.
 
    "Stokes County is known for our musicians and the Jomeokee Music Festival is a great way to celebrate our musical heritage," said festival director Eddy McGee of the Stokes Arts Council. "You won't see this level of entertainment at this price anywhere else in North Carolina."
 
    In addition to the musical lineup, the festival features arts & crafts demonstrations, food vendors and hiking along the Sauratown trail system.
