Experience Family Adventures in the Ancient World With New Child-Friendly Tours from Peter Sommer Travels
April 14, 2010 - Cultural tour specialist Peter Sommer Travels is offering a family ticket to the ancient world, creating an expanded program of child-friendly sailing adventures along the beautiful and historic Turkish coast.
Based on its successful series of archaeological expeditions and sailing tours, Peter Sommer Travels has introduced three itineraries designed especially for families with children 7 and older, sailing the azure waters of Turkey's Aegean and Mediterranean coasts in groups of up to 16 people.
The one-week tours are led by expert guides, combining Turkey's remarkable history and ancient ruins with time to relax, swim, play and enjoy life aboard a traditional gulet sailing boat.
Peter Sommer said the choice of family itineraries was expanded after the success of individual tours operated in past years. First introduced at the suggestion of past guests, they allowed travellers to entertain their families and satisfy their minds at the same time.
"Children love exploring the ancient ruins, delving into 2,500-year-old tombs or taking to the stage in the Greek and Roman theatres," he said. "When we hike off into the hills, we're almost certain to see goats, tortoises and lizards, and while at sea there is always the chance we'll see dolphins."
Family tours scheduled for 2010 include:
Sailing to Ephesus, May 29 to June 5 - Beginning in Bodrum, the ancient Halicarnassus, and heading north to Ephesus, one of the best preserved Roman cities in the Mediterranean. Adults: $2,665. Children up to 12: $2,475.
Carian Coast, July 24 to 31 - Sailing west from Göçek to Bodrum, visiting some of the great gems of Turkey's southwest coast including Caunos with its rock-cut temple tombs and the marbled city of Knidos. Adults: $2,865. Children up to 12: $2,670.
Cruising the Ceramic Gulf, October 23-30 - Exploring the quiet coves and breathtaking vistas along the pristine coast of the Ceramic Gulf, including Bodrum, Knidos and the Castle of St. Peter built by the Knights of Rhodes. Adults: $2,665. Children up to 12: $2,475.
Custom-tailored private tours and gulet charters in Turkey, Greece or Sicily can be arranged for extended families, family reunions and other occasions.
Peter Sommer Travels offers cultural tours and gulet cruises in Turkey, Greece and Italy, led by expert guides including archaeologists, historians and travel writers. Headed by British archaeologist and BBC documentary maker Peter Sommer, the tours explore some of the wonders of past civilizations and offer an intimate insight into the history and culture of these ancient lands.
Tour prices are per person double, and include all meals and accommodation aboard gulets, road transfers, all crew and guide services, and all entrance fees and tips on excursions.
