Hawaiian Islands accommodations

04-30-2010

B&B’s, spa & golf resorts, villas,  vacation Homes, condos, boutique Hotels are all available in the Hawaiian Islands

Honolulu (April 30, 2010) - As one of the most popular vacation areas in the entire world, the Hawaiian Islands are well known for large resort and golf complexes such as Wailea and Kaanapali on Maui and Waikoloa on the Big Island.

However, there are many other types of accommodations as well and you can discover these on Hawaii.com. Here are some of the types of places you may stay in Hawaii that you may not have considered before:

Boutique hotels: Boutique properties differentiate themselves from the larger brand names properties by offering personalized services and a blend of luxury and cozy intimacy. They are usually hotels of 30 rooms or less. They are available in abundance on Oahu, particularly in Waikiki.

Once you’ve made your selection, you will surely appreciate the more intimate, comfortable experience with staffs that remember your name from year to year.

Bed and Breakfasts: Most B&B's in the Hawaiian Islands are small inns with a dozen or so rooms or they are just a few rooms in a private home.

They take every form, some are in gardens, others on ranches and one on the Big Island is even in a tree house. In any case, they are very personal. You are likely to be greeted by your hosts who treat you as a guest in their home and share all of their local knowledge with you.

In all cases, breakfast is included in your room rate and it is often a lavish affair cooked specially for you. Goodies like pineapple pancakes and home-made granola will tantalize your taste buds and give you a robust start to your day. Some B&B's go further and offer such amenities as afternoon tea or wine in cheese in the late afternoon.

Typically, you will mix and mingle with the other guests in the living room or on the lanai which often broadens your own island experience as they share their favorite restaurants and daily comings and goings with you. Most B&B’s are located on Maui, Kauai and the Big Island.

Vacation Ownership Units:  Formerly called timeshares, they are all that and more. There are lots of these units in the islands and most are condominiums. You can access these units either by trading one that you own or by renting such a unit through Hawaii.com.

Typically, these units are studio, one, two or three bedrooms and usually they are in buildings of multiple units of similar design. The complexes usually offer a wide range of activities, some free and some for a fee. Welcome cocktail parties are typical as are mid-week barbeques.
There is almost always some type of kitchen so you have the advantage of being able to make your breakfasts and picnic lunches, thus saving money.

In recent years, many well known major hotel companies have entered the fractional ownership business and so you can now book condo-type accommodations and yet enjoy all of the amenities of a luxury resort. These rentals are available on all islands except Lanai.

Vacation Rental Homes: If you like to spread out when you are vacation, then a vacation rental home might be the perfect accommodation for you. This is especially the case in Hawaii, where many visitors want to stay at least a week or two.

A house with several bedrooms... and often such amenities as swimming pools and large lanais, not to mention killer views … really gives you the opportunity to settle in and enjoy your island vacation.

Rental homes are particularly good for families, or for intergenerational groups (grandma and grandpa get their own bedroom) or for several couples traveling together. And the ability to make your own meals can cut down substantially on your food costs.

In fact, once you have had your own island home, you may never want to stay in a hotel again. Prices vary widely according to the size of the home, its location and the time of year you are booking so shop carefully. These homes are available on all islands, including Molokai and Lanai.

Be sure to check out all of these possibilities on Hawaii.com and be sure to visit Hawaii.com on Facebook and Twitter.
